What is an Iceberg Genealogy Researcher? My definition of an IGR is someone who sits at their computer in their pajamas, only searching internet sites, and expects their family history pedigrees to fall into place. Did you know that it is estimated that less than 10% of genealogical records are online?
Don’t get me wrong!…I do plenty of research on my computer (in my pj’s). However, this step is only my initial step. I think people need to Go where their ancestors actually lived!
This cute seal is soaking up the sunshine on top of the iceberg…just enjoying himself. I’m sure he’s having fun, but he really can’t go too far! His options are pretty limited! The same is true for the family historian who limits himself to internet research. His options are limited as well. He needs to dive in deep. He needs to plan a research trip to where his ancestors actually lived!
So, that’s it for today’s GenTraveling blog post! Have I convinced you to plan a research trip? Where do you plan to go? Be sure to share your GenTraveling Bucket list on our Bucket List Page. GenTraveling: It’s the Real Deal Thrill!
