Hello GenTravelers!
Many of you probably know about, and may participate in, Amy Johnson Crow’s “52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks” prompts. Lately, I have been having a BLAST reading a whole bunch of family history blogs about the recent theme of Road Trips (because, you know, I’m kind of into that sort of thing). Most posts were simply remembering road trips taken with family members, but my favorites were, of course, related to GenTraveling.
I had to share this one that I saw on a message board at wikitree.com:
Oh! Yes, GenTraveling can often present us with opportunities to say “Oopsie” – or “we were in the wrong dang town!” I’ve had a few minor “oopsie-moments” – unfortunately, nothing too embarrassing (cuz that would be a good story!). But, how about any of you? Any GenTraveling Oopsies you can share with us? I’d LOVE to hear about them!
So, are you planning your GenTraveling yet? Where do you plan to go? Be sure to share your GenTraveling Bucket list on our Bucket List Page. GenTraveling: It’s the Real Deal Thrill!
I participate in her group. I loved the road trips but Dear Diary has been one of my favorites!

I’ll have to go read some of those! Although I’ll probably feel jealous cuz I don’t have any vintage diaries from my ancestors, haha!

Not had any oopsies yet, maybe I’m too much of a newbie or know my way around Cornwall, Kent and Cumbria well enough!

Most likely the latter, right?!

I’ve had some online oopsies – like adding a whole branch of the family from Suffolk which turned out to be another family altogether. Luckily I hadn’t yet arranged a visit before I realised my mistake!

Yeah well, that’s easy to do! Happy that you realized your oopsie pretty quickly!

I had a similar almost oopsie. We were planning our trip to Germany, and one of my lines came from Schopfloch. I planned a hotel stay near there only to learn a week or two before the trip that there were two towns named Schopfloch—one in Baden-Wurrtemburg, one in Bavaria. My ancestors came from the one in Bavaria, but—yep—our hotel was near the other Schopfloch. I had to cancel the hotel (which was prepaid) and book another. All worked out in the end though.
